Indians Lose 2nd Game In A Row

The Indians started off the 14th Annual Wood Bat Classic against the Hollister Tigers.  The Indians starting pitcher, Tony Caldwell, allowed a walk and a single to start the game but then proceeded to strike out the next 3 hitters to end the top of the first.

The Tigers got on the board first in the top of the 2nd inning.  The lead-off hitter started the inning with a single and later scored on an infield error.  In the bottom of the inning the Indians took the lead on a 2 RBI single from Dillon Hester.  The Indians led 2-1 after 2 innings.  The score stayed right there until the top of the 5th inning.

​

The Tigers took the lead when they scored three runs in the top of the 5th.  The Indians once again aided in the Tigers scoring allowing an error, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch.  The Indians trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning.

​

Hunter Langston started the 6th inning with a single and then scored on a Dillon Turner double two batters later.  The Indians pulled to 4-3 to go into the 7th.

​

The Indians reliever, Mason Foley pitched around 2 singles and a walk to record 3 flyouts to centerfield.  The Indians would come up to bat for the last time down one run.

​

With one out in the bottom of the 7th inning Dillon Hester would get on base with a hit-by-pitch and then steal second and advance to 3rd on a passed ball.  Mason Foley would then hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4.  Hunter Langston would then flyout to send the game into extra innings.

​

Hollister would get a man on base after the first hitter gronded out.  The next batter for the Tigers bunted and the runner at first would score on a throwing error that traveled into right field.  The Tigers were once again up one run heading into the bottom of the 8th inning.

​

The first two Indians batters made outs and Wyatt Maples had an excellent 11 pitch at-bat to hit a double.  The next batter was intentionally walked and then the Tigers finished off the Indians with a strike out.

​

The Indians dropped its 2nd 1-run loss in a row to fall to 8-2.

Indians Suffer First Loss on the Year In Pitcher's Duel

The Indians wasted a good pitching performance by Dillon Turner in a 1-0 pitching dual loss to Marshfield.  The Indians could only muster 1 hit versus the Blue Jays pitching.

​

In the top of the 3rd inning the Indians Nick Oliver reached 3b after a walk, steal of 2b, and advancing on an error by the catcher but failed to score on a fly ball to center field.

​

In the top of the 5th inning the Indians had two on and no outs and the Indians failed to execute a sacrifice bunt and then got picked off at second.  That is when the Indians Hunter Langston recorded their only hit.

​

In the bottom of the 5th inning the Marshfield pitcher led off the inning with a home run for the games only run.

​

Dillon Turner took the loss on the afternoon after pitching a complete game while surrendering only 3 hits, 3 walks and Stringing out 7.

​

The JV came up short for the 2nd game in a row losing 6-4.

Indians Improve to 8-0 after Close Game with Stockton

When Strafford and Stockton meet it is always a good game.  The Indians starting pitcher Tony Caldwell worked a perfect first 2 innings and the score was 0-0 heading into the bottom of the 2nd.

Bryce Boswell got things going with a triple down the right field line.  He would later score on an error by the 2nd basemen.  The Indians weren't done though as they continued to score 4 more runs on 2 singles, 2 walks and a wild pitch.  The Indians were up 5-0 heading into the top of the 3rd inning.

​

In the top of the 3rd Caldwell walked the lead-off hitter.  He advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch, 3rd on a ground ball, and scored on another ground ball.  Caldwell still hadn't allowed a hit but allowed a run.  After the Indians went down in order in the bottom of the 3rd the score was 5-1.

​

In the top of the 4th Caldwell allowed his 1st hit along with a walk but pitched around it with recording three more strike outs, as he kept Stockton at 1 run.  Once again the Indians went down in order in the bottom of the 4th.

​

In the top of the 5th inning the Indians starter started to lose control.  Caldwell walked the bases loaded then gave up a hit that scored two runs.  After another hit Caldwell's day was done on the mound.  He was relieved by Drew Stoll who proceeded to give up a hit and hit and a ground out and the Indians found themselves behind 7-5.

​

In the bottom of the 5th inning the Indians started with consecutive walks.  The first walk, Tony Caldwell, scored on a drop third strike to pull the game to 7-6.  Then Nick Oliver singled in the tying run to even the score at 7-7.

​

Stoll started the 6th with consecutive ground outs followed by consecutive walks and was relieved by Mason Foley.  Foley recorded a big fly out with two on to Hunter Langston to end the inning.

​

Drew Stoll got the bottom of the 6th inning started with a bunt single.  After he stole 2nd he then scored on an RBI double by Dillon Turner.  two batters later Wyatt Maples scored Turner on a single and the Indians led 9-7.

​

The Tigers scored 1 in the top of the 7th and left two on base but it wasn't enough.  The Indians remain unbeaten on the season and in conference.

​

The JV suffered their first loss on the year 7-2 and falling to 3-1.

Indians Stay Unbeaten with Win Over Springfield Catholic

The class 3 #2 ranked Indians faced possibly their toughest test of the year to date when the Springfield Catholic Indians came to town.  The Irish were receiving votes in class 4 and came in with a 4-1 record.

​

The Indians started the bottom of the 2nd inning after starting pitcher got a big strike out with the bases loaded to end the top of the fist.  Dillon Turner walked to start the inning and then stole 2nd two pitches later and then Bryce Boswell doubled in the right field gap to plate the first run.  After Boswell advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch he then scored on a sacrifice fly from Dillon Hester.  The Indians led 2 -0 after 2 innings.

​

Catholic answered in the top of the 3rd inning with a walk and back-to-back doubles to tie it at 2-2.

​

In the bottom of the 3rd inning the Indians came back to take the lead.  Dillon Turner got an RBI with a bases loaded walk and then Bryce Boswell doubled off of the top of the wall to plate 2 more runs for the Indians to make the score 5-3 after 3 innings.

​

Tony Caldwell got a strike out to start the top of the 4th inning but after consecutive walks the Indians brought in SR. Drew Stoll.  Stoll then got back-to-back fly outs to Hunter Langston in center field to thwart any scoring opportunities for the Irish.

​

The Indians got a run from Nick Oliver as he advanced on a wild pitch to extend the Indians lead to 6-2 heading into the top of the 5th inning.

​

The Irish scored two with a 2 run home run in the top of the 5th inning and scored another run in the top of the 6th to bring the score to 6-5 to start the 7th inning.

​

Mason Foley then came in to relive Drew Stoll, after 2 2/3 innings pitched, in the top of the 7th.  Foley pitched a 1-2-3 inning to keep the score at 6-5 and earn the save for the Indians.

​

Tony Caldwell earned the win for the Indians to improve to 3-0 on the season and Mason Foley records his first save on the year.  Bryce Boswell led the way for the Indians on offense with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.

​

The JV improved to 3-0 on the year with a 3-0 win.  Nick Oliver pitched 4 scoreless innings to earn the win and Sawyer Lumley came in relief to earn the save.

​

The Indians will be back in action at home Tuesday, April 10th, versus Stockton.

Turner Throws No-Hitter in 5 Inning Run-Rule

Dillon Turner returned to form Wednesday night as the Indians improved to 6-0 and 2-0 in the MLC win an 11-0 win over Pleasant Hope.  Dillon Turner threw all five innings without allowing a hit.

​

The Indians jumped on the Pirates early scoring 9 runs in the top of the 1st inning.  In that inning Tony Caldwell had 2 hits (single and a double) and Nick Oliver had a double.  Also in the first Kyle Schatzer who played for late scratch Wyatt Maples, got his first RBI on the year with a sacrifice fly.

​

The Indians seemed to put it on cruise control the rest of the game scoring only two more runs and those came in the 3rd inning.  In the third Nick Oliver got it started with a single followed by a Hunter Langston double.  those two would score on ground outs the next two batters, and that would be all the scoring for the Indians.

​

The Indians would finish the night with 12 hits in 5 innings for 11 runs.  Tony Caldwell had three hits and Hunter Langston, Nick Oliver and Drew Stoll all added 2 hits a piece.

​

The JV improved to 2-0 and completed the sweep with a 19-0 victory.  

Indians get 1st Conference win

After a week filled with rain, the Indians finally got a game in on Friday versus Skyline.  The Indians defeated the Tigers to improve to 5-0 and 1-0 in the MLC.

​

The Indians scored first in the top of the 2nd inning when Skyline starter struggled to find the strike zone.  after a couple of walks and a couple of Hit-By-Pitch's Drew Stoll got an RBI on another HBP.  Tony Caldwell then scored two runs when the SS made an error.  It was 3-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd. 

​

Starting pitcher Tony Caldwell pitched 2 innings and recorded 4 strike outs and without giving up a base runner.

​

The Indians scored seven runs in the top of the 3rd inning capped off by a Mason Foley grand slam.  His 3rd on the year.  From that point the Indians used a couple of different pitchers.  Mason Foley came in and pitched the 3rd and 4th innings.  Foley did not allow a hit but did have 2 walks in his 2 innings of work.

​

The Indians followed the 3rd inning by having a strong 4th inning as well.  They scored six runs in that inning which involved a single by Garrett Lumley and a bases clearing double by Wyatt Maples.  The Indians led 16-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning.  New pitcher Dillon Turner struggled to find the strike zone in this young season as he gave up 7 runs on just 1 hit and 1 error without recording an out.  He was relieved by Drew Stoll, the Indians 4th pitcher on the day.  After the Tigers scored 7 the game was forced to continue.

​

Drew Stoll pitched two innings and Nick Oliver pitched the 7th to close out the Tigers.

​

The Indians scored 1 more run in the top of the 7th inning to defeat the Tigers 17-7.

​

The JV finally got their first action of the season and defeated Skyline 7-6.

Indians Win Strafford/PHope Tournament

The Indians faced conference foe, Marionville from the Pleasant Hope side of the bracket for the championship.  It took the Indians a couple of innings to get going but when they did, they made short work of the Comets.

​

The Indians SO pitcher, Nick Oliver, started his first career game in the championship.  The Comets started the game with a lead-off walk and a stolen base, then followed by a double and the Comets scored first.  Oliver then struck out the next three batters but the Comets led 1-0 after the top of the first inning.  In the bottom of the first the Indians scored two as Mason Foley got things start with a walk and two stolen bases much like the Comets did in the top of the first.  Drew Stoll then scored Foley on an infield single.  Stoll stole second base and then scored three batters later on a Bryce Boswell single to left.  The Indians led 2-1 after the 1st inning.

​

The score stayed there until the top of the 3rd inning when Marionville scored three runs and Bryce Boswell came in relief of Nick Oliver after a Oliver suffered a line drive off the leg.  Boswell recorded the 3rd out and left the bases loaded, but the damage had already been done.

​

The Indians manufactured one run in the bottom of the inning as Mason Foley, who reached on an error, scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Tony Caldwell.  The Comets still led 4-3 after three innings,

In the bottom of the 4th the Indians started to get things rolling.  Boswell led off the inning getting on base by an error by the right fielder.  Wyatt Maples then hit his first home run on the year to left field to pull ahead of the Comets 5-4.  Dillon Hester walked on four straight pitches.  Hester advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and and advanced to 3rd on a Jacob Stow ground ball to the right side of the infield.  Hunter Langston walked and both Langston and Hester advanced on a pass ball.  Foley walked, Stoll walked and Dillon Turner got hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to score the 7th run for the Indians.

​

The Indians then score five in the 5th inning, all with two outs, capped off by Mason Foley two run home run.  The Indians also got an RBI triple from Tony Caldwell and an RBI double from Dillon Turner.  The Indians then scored two in the bottom of the 6th inning to end the game as a 14-4 run rule.

​

The Indians next game is Monday, March 26th, at Skyline.

Indians Stay Unbeaten In Close Win

The Indians showed grit in a close game versus Mount Vernon.  The Indians came from behind early and held on late to win a 6-5 contest against the Mountaineers.

​

After the Mountaineers scored a run in each of the first two innings, starting pitcher Dillon Turner had a cleaned 3rd inning but the Indians were behind 2-0 headed to the bottom of the 3rd inning. 

​

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Dillon Hester got things started with a double to right field to get the first hit for the Indians.  Nick Oliver followed with a single up the middle to get the Indians on the board to pull with in 1 run.  Nick Oliver advanced to 2nd base on the throw and then advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch.  Hunter Langston then scored Nick Oliver with a sacrifice fly to left field.  The score was knotted up at 2-2 after 3 innings.

​

In the top of the 5th the Indians starting pitcher ran into trouble. The Mountaineers walked, singled, then walked to load the bases with no outs.  The Indians made a pitching change and decided to put in senior Drew Stoll.  Stoll proceeded to strike out the first two batters he faced.  Then a Mountaineer runner was called out at home trying to advance on a ball in the dirt, and Stoll and the Indians survived with out giving up a run.

​

Tony Caldwell started the top of the 4th inning hitting his first home run of the seasons for him, and for the Indians.  The Indians took their first lead of the day.  Dillon Turner followed Caldwell with a single and two batters later Wyatt Maples walked.  With Dillon Hester up to bat, the Mountaineer catcher tried to pick off the Indians courtesy runner Sawyer Lumley, and Dillon Turner scored on the play to bring the score to 4-2.

​

Mt. Vernon closed the gap to one run in the 5th and then Mason Foley extended it to 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th with his first home run of the year.

​

The score was still 5-3 in the bottom of the 6th when Sawyer Lumley recorded his first hit of the year.  Hunter Langston advanced Lumley to 3rd base on a sac bunt.  Mason Foley then recorded his 2nd RBI of the night with a sac fly to bring the score to 6-3.

​

The Mountaineers made things interesting by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning but the rally came up short when Tony Caldwell made a nice play at 3rd base to end the game with the score of 6-5.

​

The Indians improve to 3-0 and will play Marionville on Friday at home at 4 pm for the Strafford/Pleasant Hope tournament.

Strafford Tops Rival In First Meeting

The Indians defeat Fair Grove in what could potentially be the first of four match-ups this year versus their rivals.

​

Dillon Turner led off the top of the 2nd inning with a double and then scored two batters later when Bryce Boswell lined a double up the middle.  In the top of the 3rd Mason Foley tripled to left field with 1 out then scored on a wild pitch.  The Indians lead climbed to 2-0 and stayed there until the top of the 6th inning.

​

Tony Caldwell started the top of the 6th inning with a walk followed by a Dillon Turner double.  Bryce Boswell then picked up RBI's two and three of the game after he tripled to right field.  Dillon Hester then singled to center field to extend the lead to 5-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning.

​

Mason Foley came in to relieve starting pitcher Tony Caldwell who went 5 innings and recorded 10 strike outs while allowing just 1 hit and zero runs.  The Eagles finally got onto the scoreboard in the 6th after a couple of hits.  The Indians led 5-1 heading into the top of the 7th inning.

​

In the top of the 7th the flood gates oped for the Indians.  With some help from the Fair Grove pitchers and some timely hitting the Indians scored 7 runs to extend their lead to 14-1.

​

The Eagles added 1 run in the bottom of the 7th and the Indians had defeated the Eagles 14-2.

​

Tony Caldwell (1-0) recorded his first win on the year.  Dillon Turner led the way for the Indians on offense with 4 hits as Mason Foley, Bryce Boswell, and Wyatt Maples all recorded 2 hits as well.

​

The Indians (2-0) will return to action Thursday, 3/22 versus Mt. Vernon at 4 pm, at home.

Strafford Starts 1-0

The Indians started the season pre-season ranked 4th in the state and with high expectations after losing to eventual State Champs, South Callaway in last year's Quarterfinals, and they did not disappoint.  The Indians started the season in a home tournament vs Buffalo.

 

After giving up a run in the top of the first, The Indians answered with 13 runs in the bottom of the inning.  The inning got started when Mason Foley led off with a double and Drew Stoll advanced him to 3rd on a ground out to the 1st basemen.  Foley then scored the first run on a wild pitch.  After the Buffalo pitcher struggled to throw strikes and the defense had a couple of errors in the inning, Tony Caldwell and Dillon Turner delivered back-to-back doubles and Wyatt Maples hit another double two batters later to open things up in the 1st inning. The Indians took a 13-1 lead to the 2nd inning and never looked back after that point.

​

Dillon Turner pitched 2 innings and had 4 strike outs while walking 5, giving up 1 hit and 1 earned run.  Bryce Boswell relieved turner in the top of the 3rd inning with the score already at 15-2.  Bryce pitched 2 innings and gave up 3 hits while striking out 2 and not giving up a run.  After Boswell gave way to Nick Oliver on the mound the the Indians had extended its lead to 27-2.  Nick Oliver pitched the 5th striking out the side while walking one.

​

The Indians outhit the Bison 11 to 4 while only committing one error on their way to a dominating 27-2 win.  The Indians offense was highlighted by good days by, Mason Foley who went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's, Tony Caldwell who went 2-2 with 3 RBI's and 2 BB, and Wyatt Maples who went 2-3 with 4 RBI's.

​

The Indians will be back in action Monday, March 19th, at home vs Fair Grove at 4PM.
